Journeyman Machinist

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: A Journeyman Machinist at ConQuip, Inc. must be skilled in all facets of machine shop operation. He/she will be required to fabricate machine parts from blueprint drawings on manual lathes and mills without supervision. He/she will also be skilled in CNC machine programming and operation. In addition the journeyman machinist will be required to maintain a clean, organized, efficient work environment. The Journeyman Machinist as dictated by the Production Manager must meet all production and quality standards.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports To: Reports directly to and is fully accountable to the Production Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Required: High School Diploma
Preferred: Trade School or college experience
Licensing/ Registration/ Certification:
Required: Valid California Drivers License
Current Automobile Insurance
Preferred: Forklift Certification
Experience:
Required: Five (5) years of machining experience as a journey level machinist in a production machining facility.
Preferred: College or trade school certificate in addition to the above.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Required: Full command of various machining processes including milling, turning (manual), grinding and plating. Also, in depth knowledge of materials including carbon steel, aluminum, tool steel, stainless steel and plastics.
Preferred: Experience with CNC programming, welding and material conditioning/treatment. The ability to teach all of the above skills.
Physical:
Body positions: Standing, sitting, kneeling, lifting 50+ lbs.
Body movements: Maneuverability throughout facility, working on a ladder.
Body Senses: Sight and touch for safety. Ability to read drawings, instruction manuals and machine readouts and dials. Able to hear machine noises to diagnose or monitor processes and communicate with others in the company.
Mental:
Mathematics: Addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals. The Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, dial caliper and any other measuring device required in the machinists trade.
Language: This position requires the ability to read, write and speak English in order to effectively communicate with supervisor, co-workers, customers, and vendors.
Reasoning: Being able to determine the importance of data and how it may (or may not) apply to ConQuip’s business. Must be able to determine the most efficient, cost effective manor in which to produce custom machine parts.
Working Conditions: Work will be primarily performed in a warehouse environment. May require some travel for on site machinery modifications.
